The largest study currently conducted on cannabidiol (CBD) has shown that many patients are getting so much relief from their pain using CBD, that they may abandon pharmaceutical prescriptions altogether.
The research was conducted by the Brightfield Group and HelloMD and involved 2400 people belonging to the latter community. The group consisted of 55% women. Statistically speaking, the results showed that men prefer products composed primarily of THC over CBD.
Dr. Perry Solomon , the chief medical officer of HelloMD, says the main reasons people use CBD are to treat insomnia, depression, anxiety and joint pain.
“We are seeing exponential growth in interest in CBD products among our patient community – particularly among women,” Solomon told Forbes. “While we still have a lot to learn about CBD, we can't ignore one fact: Most people who use CBD products today experience great benefits. Therein lies the potential for far-reaching consequences.”
Forty-two percent of CBD users in the study told researchers they were able to quit prescription medications, such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, and other stronger, more addictive prescription painkillers, all thanks to CBD products.
An astonishing 80% of the surveyed population said they found CBD “very or extremely effective.”
3% said they had not noticed any significant effects.
“This study is exciting because it shows that there is potentially a huge, barely touched market for CBD products, which could improve the lives of many people,” said Bethany Gomez , the director of the Brightfield Group. “With further research and greater public education, CBD could be an effective alternative treatment for many people, particularly during a time when our nation is in the midst of an opioid crisis.”
