CBD oil continues to prove itself as an incredibly effective tool in helping with a variety of ailments that your dog may be suffering from.
Researchers at Cornell University recently completed a study on the effects of CBD oil on dogs suffering from osteoarthritis. Over the course of six weeks, in a double-blind study, dogs were given either CBD oil or a placebo orally twice a day. The dogs that received the CBD oil showed significant improvements —vets noted a decrease in pain and an increase in activity . Even better, owners reported no side effects in the pups that received CBD.
This is great news for dog owners whose dogs suffer from arthritis pain. This painful condition affects all breeds, but especially larger and older dogs. Until now, most dog parents have had to rely on anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to give their dogs relief from joint pain. However, there are several problems associated with these drugs. Veterinarians suspect that NSAIDs do not provide adequate relief for arthritis pain, and that they may have negative side effects on the body. Some dogs, especially older dogs with kidney or gastrointestinal disease, cannot take them at all.
This new study, and others that have studied the effects and uses of CBD oil in dogs, have reported no apparent side effects – and not just in young, healthy dogs. Older dogs, those with neurological issues, and now dogs with joint pain are seeing the benefits that CBD oil has to offer, without suffering organ and tissue damage.
